Strength: ‘Pulling’

Let’s try something a little bit differently today. Instead of following our CFWR Fitness Level chart, we are all going back to the basics with the strict pull-up.

Recently, Greg Glassman (CF CEO) came out and said that he regrets teaching kipping pull-ups. He said ”if I was starting over, I would devalue the kipping pull-up and let it occur naturally. People that can’t do strict pull-ups and are trying to kip are wrong.” While his quote does appear a bit harsh, what I take from this is that we should all value a foundation of strength. You should earn your movements for body weight training versus merely kipping.

On this note, we will be working eccentric pull-ups today. Pick a rep range for you and hit a number of sets that is going to make you better. I’ll throw out some ideas before we start. In between sets, lets continue our work with the DU or triple unders. Practice, practice, practice!!
